La Calaca Festival

As part of PlayaSkool on-going mission to provide support to spreading the Burning Man culture globally, we support the efforts of the team of La Calaca.

La Calaca Festival is a free,  participatory art and culture festival that takes place during the Day of the Dead celebrations in San Miguel de Allende, México.   Our mission is to establish a participatory culture to protect, honor and explore the themes and traditions of “Día de Muertos”

Established in 2012 by a group of passionate people that wanted to give back to the San Miguel de Allende community, The “Calacas” set on the task of producing a one-of-a-kind festival by encouraging artists to explore the Day of the Dead traditions (that commemorate the transitory return to Earth of those who have departed from this life) and by doing so, provoking  a moment of reflection of our transitional nature.
